If you read the preceding articles on jewlery, you already learned about all the properties of silver and the differences between pure silver and sterling silver (also known as  925 silver). You may  have just decided to purchase some wholesale fashion  jewelry. Perhaps you want to buy some for yourself or your significant one some silver costume jewelry with modern designs, or a set of stackable sterling silver rings  from a wholesale silver jewelry shop.

Maybe you have a girlfriend and would like to take your relationship further and surprise her with art deco engagement rings.  Traditionally, the engagement ring was supposed to be a solitary diamond mounted on a gold or platinum ring. These are expensive engagement rings and not everyone can afford such a piece of gemstone jewelry, especially in a worldwide recession like we are living today. You don’t want to go into debt for the rest of your life just to follow a tradition. She is reasonable, she loves you for who you are, and she knows that you cannot afford it. But nevertheless, being a woman, she expects that you will show your commitment by offering her at least cubic zirconia engagement rings.

Sterling silver rings could be the solution to your problem!  They are shinny, beautiful and delicate. You can purchase handmade silver jewelry rings with a diversity of precious gems already mounted on them. Some sterling silver rings have a gold or platinum alloy, and that gives them more value. You can purchase a very nice looking one for less than $300.

If you cannot afford a real natural diamond (which you won´t find for less than $1,500), nowadays they produce man made synthetic diamonds that look just exactly the same, are harder and even purer and are inexpensive (some sell for less than $100).

There are two kinds of synthetic diamonds:  Cubic Zirconia and Moissanite. There is no way to see the difference between the natural diamond and the man made diamond, unless you are an expert and have the right equipment.

Of course, you don´t want to deceive your fiancée and start your engagement based on a lie: You should tell her it is a real man made diamond and that there is no way anyone can know it is not a natural diamond.  It is always better for you to be honest, than risking her finding out on her own. It will be up to her to show it off to her friends and relatives as a natural diamond.

If you are going to surprise her and don´t know her ring size, you can either borrow one of her rings and take it to the jewelry shop of your choice, or use the ring sizing chart and measure her finger when she is asleep.

Ring Sizing Chart

Important: Read Before Printing!

The exactitude of your finger´s measurement will depend on printing this sheet exactly the way it is.

Set your printer to 100-percent. Do not reduce the print size “page setup” area.

The best way you can verify that the ring sizer is printed correctly, would be by measuring it
with a ruler; it should measure 3 1/2 inches long from “A” to “B”.

Measure Your Finger

1. Cut out the paper ring sizer.

2. Cut a slit for Slot “A”.

3. Wrap the paper sizer around the exact finger where the silver
ring will be worn, making sure that the numbers are facing out.

4. Pull the pointed end Tab “B” through Slot “A” until the paper sizer is snug.

5. Make sure to allow the size for your knuckle. If your knuckle is larger than
the base of your finger, select a size in between the two numbers.

6. The number aligned with Slot “A” is your ring size.

7. If the measurement lands between two numbers, your size is a half size.

Example: If your measurement falls between 5 and 6, your ring size is 5 1/2.

Sizing tip: Measure your finger at the beginning of the day to avoid incorrect measurements. Sometimes late at night your fingers swallow a bit due to water retention.

More sizing mistakes are made by ordering rings too large rather than too small.

It is important to make sure that your handcrafted silver jewellery fits well, as if it is too large you have more chances of your silver ring slipping off and even getting lost.

What is 925 Sterling Silver?

Silver is such a malleable, ductile, white, and shiny precious metal. It is so  soft and easy to work with, that silversmiths –with their special skills and patience–,  can shape silver into almost anything they want. They just keep stroking the metal with their hammers and tools until the desired handcrafted silver object is obtained.  Silver can sometimes be too soft, deform with use or get scratched easily.  Pure silver is 99.9 silver. As gold, pure silver does not tarnish or lose its color.

Silver occurs naturally in alloy with gold, copper, lead, nickel, zinc, arsenic, antimony and other metals.  If mixed with copper to 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, the resulting silver is stronger and more resistant. This is known as Sterling Silver. Manufactures engrave a seal in each sterling silver piece jewellery. It says 925 on it, meaning that for every 100 grams there should be 92.5 grams of silver and 7.5 grams of copper or nickel or another metal.

Sterling silver is mostly used to produce solid silverware, plateware, tea sets and candle sticks, etc. but also silver jewellery. The special alloy maximizes its shine and brilliance, makes the piece stronger and durable and does not deform with use.

Sterling silver jewellery is priced affordably. Almost anyone can buy sterling silver rings, sterling silver bracelets or necklaces.  On the other hand, sterling silver is also used to provide a magnificent support in gemstone jewellery.  The beauty of precious gems and diamonds is enhanced when mounted in 925 silver rings, necklaces, earrings or bracelets. Those pieces of gemstone jewellery would obviously be more costly due to the value of the gems, but not as much as they would be if the precious stones were mounted in gold or platinum.

Tarnishing and green traces in your skin

A negative property of silver mixed with copper or nickel is the tendency of those added metals to oxidise in contact with the sulphides in the air. This causes the sterling silver gemstone jewellery to tarnish and acquire a yellowish or even dark color.  Lots of precautions can be taken, like polishing it, washing it, wrapping it with a special silver cloth and keeping it in a drawer or a closed box. The good news is that with proper care, and following simple tips, your gemstone jewellery can be returned to its original shine and beauty.

Even 925 designer silver jewellery can sometimes leave a green mark in your skin and perhaps not in someone else´s. This is due to the different chemicals in people´s skins, the composition of their sweat, etc.

A gift of  handmade silver jewellery is greatly appreciated! You can find all kinds of reasonably priced exquisite sterling silver rings with or without precious stones.

Purchasing mens silver rings is more common these days.   As the demand increases, so does the variety and beauty of the superb mens gemstone jewellery you can find in the market.

Best 10 Tips on How to Clean Silver Jewelry

  • Always store your clean silver jewelry in a cloth pouch, wrapped in a special silver cloth, or in a separate lined drawer.
  • Take your silver jewelry off when taking a bath, a shower, or when swimming. Chlorine and salt can damage or tarnish silver.
  • If you are doing dishes or cleaning the house, always take your wholesale silver jewelry off. There is always a possibility that it could get in contact with household cleaning products such as bleach or ammonia.
  • One of the best ways to avoid or delay tarnishing is to wear your silver jewelry often.
  • If tarnish starts to build up, don´t panic. There are many silver polish solutions in the market to remove it right away. Try to find the most natural products. You can use a soft toothbrush to apply the product.
  • Don’t ever allow your silver jewelry to get in contact with anything containing rubber: Don’t put rubber bands on silver or handle it with rubber gloves.
  • Silver reacts with sulphur. Always keep your silver jewelry away from eggs or any product containing sulphur.
  • Clean your handmade silver jewelry before storing it away. Small particles of food or salt left on it, could stain or tarnish your silver jewelry over time.
  • Never store your silver when it is still wet: Make sure to dry it carefully. Use a 100% pure cotton cloth– without dies–, to dry or polish your silver jewelry.
  • Silver jewelry that has been stored for a long time may get quite dark or yellowish. If it is very tarnished, use this simple butler formula:

- Cover the bottom of the sink or a skillet with tin foil.

- Fill it with hot water.

- Ad a couple spoons of salt and a couple spoons of baking soda.

- Immerse the silver jewelry in the solution and leave it in contact with the tin foil for about 5   minutes.    The tarnish will be removed from the silver and be collected in the tin foil.
- Rinse your silver and dry well with a 100% cotton cloth before storing it.

Silver Jewelry and Mens Sterling Silver Rings

The use of wholesale fashion jewelry amongst men has increased a lot in the last few decades. Perhaps due to the different trends, lifestyles and modern changes in society. It is interesting to see the progressive thinning of the traditional barrier or code of what is expected (or proper) in the outward appearance of a man.

Traditionally, men did not wear as much jewelry as women. The  wholesale fashion jewelry market catered more to the female customers as they were  –most likely–,to be the recipients of jewelry gifts.

Nowadays this has changed drastically. What would have been considered effeminate 20 years ago is now the accepted norm: Males wear earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, piercings, rings, cuff links, toe rings and more.

In some ethnic minorities, men like to flaunt gold and silver jewelry as a sign of power and affluence. The older the person, the more jewelry will he have accumulated. Obviously it has always been a safe investment, as precious metals have a stable value.

Last century, many middle aged western men owned at least a gold seal, or a solitary diamond mounted on a gold ring, their marriage gold band and perhaps wear some gold cuff links in their best shirt on Sundays. Mens sterling silver rings were not so common.

Nowadays –with the global financial recession–,it seems like gold is not so affordable anymore. Many people are abandoning the tradition of purchasing wedding gold bands or yellow diamond engagement rings, and opting instead for less expensive sterling silver rings, titanium wedding bands, etc.

There are many kinds of 925 silver rings for men in the market. Some are  made of an alloy with copper, gold, platinum and titanium.

You can purchase very nice sterling silver rings for your man, maybe one with a cubic zirconia diamond, and engrave either his name or the special gift-giving date (father’s day, wedding anniversary, birthday, etc.) in the inner side of the ring, and expect him to be very flattered.

There are all kinds of sterling silver rings for men, going from plain bands to very sophisticated filigree. The thickness and width of the ring is another think to consider, and that would depend on his personal preferences.

There are many online shops where you can buy beautiful designer silver jewellery without having to walk around shopping, which is something that most men do not like to do. You will be able to find mens silver rings to cater to his unique personality.
